This Month at Christ Church Riverdale

August 2014

Please note that there will be only one issue of this newsletter during the month of August

Welcome to Our New Rector-

On August 3, the Rev. Andrew G. Butler will officially begin his ministry at Christ Church Riverdale.  His first regular Sunday Services will be on Sunday, August 3.  Please mark your calendars and plan to be present for this special day in our church life.

Summer Service Schedule- through August 31

During August, Sunday Services will be at 8:30 and 10:00 and there will be no Wednesday service.  The Choirs, Church School, Library and Adult Bible Study Group will recess as well.  This summer, the nursery will operate on a volunteer basis.

Cooking for the Sharing Community- Thurs., August 21, 4 p.m.

On the third Thursday of each month, a group of volunteers meets in the Parish Hall and prepares a meal for the Sharing Community of Yonkers.  If you would like to assist, please speak with Ryland Clarke.

Kingsbridge, Riverdale, Marble Hill Food Bank Collection- Suspended for the Summer.

The Sexton’s Vacation

Our Sexton, James Onyango will be on vacation from Sun., Aug. 17 through

Sat., Sept. 6.   Please direct any problems or questions you might ordinarily direct to him to the Parish Office instead.

Please Don’t Forget Your Pledge to Christ Church Riverdale

The hot and humid days of summer in NYC are upon us.  School is out and many of our Christ Church families are away on well-deserved vacations.  Attendance at church is down and contributions are down as well.

As of July 20, our pledges were in arrears for nearly $ 6,500.

Just like in your house, the bills at Christ Church continue to come in throughout the summer.  Salaries, pensions and health insurance must be paid as well as the telephone, electric and fuel bills.

Semi-annual statements will be mailed out shortly. Please review your statement and bring your contributions up to date.  As of June 30, you should have contributed approximately 50% of your pledge to Christ Church.  If your pledge is in arrears, your statement will be marked in yellow.  If your circumstances have changed, please feel free to revise your pledge and submit a new form.

Thank you in advance for considering the needs of your church home.

Homecoming Sunday, Sept. 7

On Sun., Sept. 7, Homecoming Sunday, we return to our regular schedule of services at 8:30 & 11:00 a.m., with adult education at 9:45 a.m. and choir rehearsal at  9:30 a.m. and nursery care available from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Registration for Church School will take place and classes will begin on Sept. 14.

Please plan to bring a dish to share for the coffee hour following the 11:00 a.m. service.

This is an excellent opportunity to renew old acquaintances and make new ones.  We look forward to seeing you!
