Christ Church is a community of people of faith. We are of diverse life
styles and come from a variety of ethnic and national backgrounds. We are people
who are searching for deeper ways to understand ourselves, our world, and
Almighty God. We invite you to join us.
Christ Church Riverdale was
founded in 1866. We have been worshipping and ministering in the Riverdale
section of the Bronx ever since. The Church building, designed by architect
Richard Upjohn, is an officially designated Landmark Building. We are one of the
more than 200 parishes that comprise the
Episcopal Diocese of New York. The mother
church of our Diocese is the Cathedral of
St. John the Divine, 112th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, where our Bishop,
The Right Reverend Mark S. Sisk, and the Diocesan Offices may be
found.
The 2.3 million member
Episcopal Church in
the United States is a member of the Anglican Communion, a fellowship of
twenty-nine autonomous church bodies with 70 million members throughout the world that owe their origins
to the Church of England. Thus we
share the traditions of faith and worship, both ancient and reformed, that are
held by all Anglicans. Our belief is based on Holy Scripture, the ancient
tradition of the Christian Church, and human reason.
Since the Episcopal
Church's faith and order are a blending of both Catholic and Reformed
traditions, persons from diverse religious backgrounds find a comfortable home
with us.
